Need to expand EU-China relations” “

A long-term commercial strategy is needed to permit the industries of the European Union to sustain the changes that have come about after the great development of China’s economy. This is the conclusion of a draft resolution approved by the European Parliamentary Committee on Trade approved on 30 August, also in preparation for the Europe-China summit held last Monday. The resolution will be debated by the European Parliament during its plenary session on 26-29 September. Protectionism is not a solution, according to the members of the Committee. In their resolution they invite the Commission and Council to recognize that “the changes that have taken place in the [Chinese] textile sector, in that of clothing and shoes, which will soon be duplicated by those in the manufacture of cars, bicycles, machine tools, iron and steel, are natural” and that “a long-term strategy for the industries of the EU is urgently needed to develop and adjust European international trade policy, as is happening in China”. It is then pointed out that bilateral trade, ever since China approved the reform in 1978, has increased, reaching a total of 175 billion euros in 2004. In the previous year China became the biggest trade partner of the EU after the Usa. In spite of that, the EU trade deficit rose to 78.5 billion euros in 2004. ———————————————————————————————————– Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 1411 N.ro relativo : 60 Data pubblicazione : 07/09/2005
