“Informed of the homicidal explosion that recently took place in Turkey, the Holy Father implores the mercy of the Almighty for those who have lost their lives in this horrible outrage and the comfort of God on their families”. The Pope’s expressions of solidarity are contained in a telegram of condolence sent by Benedict XVI on 18 July, signed by Cardinal Secretary of State, to the apostolic nuncio in Turkey, Monsignor Edmond Farhat, following the terrorist attack on Saturday 16 July in the seaside resort of Kusadasi, which caused five dead and many injured. To the families of the victims and all those maimed in the blast the Pope expresses “his deep sympathy, as he also does to the Turkish authorities and people”.
