“Militancy is good news” is the title of the meeting of the Spanish Catholic student movement Juventud Estudiante Catòlica (JEC), due to be held in Madrid from 19 to 23 July with the participation of some 300 delegates from all over Spain. The meeting, explain its promoters, “provides a forum for reflection and planning for the future of this movement formed of senior secondary, university and postgraduate students from the ages of 16 to 30”. On the basis of their experiences at school and at university, the members of the JEC will plan guidelines for the future “to implement the project for the evangelization of the student world and culture”. Discussion at the meeting will focus on the style of the presence of JEC in schools and universities. The JEC, says a communiqué, “is conscious that a mature and growing response to God’s call determines a certain mode of engaging in study and being present in school. Study has an ethical dimension that cannot be overlooked. That’s why we pose the questions: in favour of whom or what do we study? How can we integrate and share the cause of justice, especially for the poorest, on the basis of our own studies?”
