Northampton welcomes its new bishop, the first appointed by Benedict XVI to an English diocese. He is Canon Peter Doyle, ordained on 28 June by Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor. The ceremony was attended by 25 bishops, 230 priests and deacons, and 800 faithful, of whom a large part from the diocese of Portsmouth where Peter Doyle has served for over 36 years.
