Measures against clandestine immigration” “

ARGO, the programme of the European Union that promotes cooperation between states in the sector of external frontiers, asylum, visas and immigration, has now entered its fourth year since coming into operation. The Commission in fact approved the programme of work for 2005 last week: it is endowed with an overall budget of 6.7 million Euros. To respond to the immigration emergency in the Mediterranean area and contribute to the “prevention of human tragedies”, ARGO will finance projects in four priority areas: effectiveness of controls on external frontiers; respect for and harmonization of visa regulations; creation of a system of common asylum; and correct application of the provisions against clandestine immigration. http://europa.eu.int/comm/justice_home/funding/argo/funding_argo_en.htm
