The 4th European Symposium of university teachers will be held in Rome from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 June on the theme “Business and the construction of a new humanism”. The symposium is being promoted by the Office of the University Apostolate of the Vicariate of Rome and organised by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. The inaugural ceremony will be held on the Campidoglio. After an introduction by Cesare Mirabelli, chairman of the Committee of University Teachers, the opening address on “Business and Christian Humanism” will be given by Cardinal Camillo Ruini, Vicar General of the Diocese of Rome and President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference. This will be followed by the keynote address by David Teece (University of California, Berkeley) on “Evolution of the relation between business and man: socio-economic reflection”, followed by introductory reports by Alberto Cova (Catholic University) on “Evolution of the relation between business and man: historical reflection” and by Peter Koslowski (Free University of Amsterdam) on “Evolution of the relation between business and man: cultural reflection”. From Friday 23 to Sunday 25 June the international conference will continue at the congress centre of the Catholic University of Rome with an opening address by the Rector of the University of the Sacred Heart, Lorenzo Ornaghi, and an address by Nicola Occhiocupo (Supervisory Authority for Competition and Market). The conference will then split up into a series of combined and parallel sessions, involving over 250 university teachers from 25 countries in Europe and beyond (Albania, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Moldavia, etc.). The combined session on Friday will be opened with a theological report by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, archbishop of Genoa, and closed by an address given by Msgr. Giampaolo Crepaldi, Secretary of the Pontifical Council of Justice and Peace. Again on Friday 23 June the debate will be enriched by two round tables dedicated to “Business in Europe today. Problems and perspectives”, in which businessmen and university teachers will take part.
