The Anglican Church has published a report on living conditions in the United Kingdom. It emphasises the growing gap between rich and poor, in spite of the reduction of unemployment and almost a decade of uninterrupted growth. The document – presented in London by the Archbishop of York John Sentamu, the first black bishop in the Anglican Church of England and Wales – ends by asking for the introduction of “a living wage” appreciably higher than the “minimum wage” introduced by the government of Tony Blair.
