Romania: people’s mission and listening centres

The people’s mission of Târgu Jiu, promoted by Father Petru Husariu, parish priest of the church of St. John Capestrano and assigned to the oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate (OMI), ended on 7 May (it opened on 30 April). Various testimonies were published by the Fides international agency at the end of the mission: “One of the good things I felt had been accomplished during the mission – says Silvia, responsible for running one of the Mission’s listening centres – was not just fostering knowledge among parishioners, but also addressing their problems, their deepest anxieties. I met various elderly people, children and families. On leaving some people’s homes I felt totally disorientated. Despite that, I prayed to God to give me the strength to overcome these moments of doubt and to re-invigorate me”. According to Sister Ana, “an extraordinary aspect of the listening centres was especially when witness was given that material poverty has not prevented people from living fully in God”.
