Promoting interfaith dialogue: that’s the main objective proposed by the delegation of the “Islam” workgroup (GTI) that works within the Swiss Bishops’ Conference and that will visit Iran from 17 to 24 April. The programme for the visit will include a meeting with the Organization for Islamic Culture and Relations (ICRO). “Respect and dialogue – says a press release of the Swiss bishops – presuppose deep knowledge of the person with whom one intends to dialogue. It requires a fundamental attitude of openness that prevents intolerance and the ‘ghettoization’ of a religious and cultural community. It is therefore important that the representatives of the various religions should meet for dialogue”. During its visit to Iran the delegation, led by Monsignor Pierre Bürcher, will also meet representatives of the Christian and Jewish minorities.
