Slovenia: new dioceses

As part of the reorganization of the diocesan structure of the Church in Slovenia, Benedict XVI has created three new dioceses: Novo Mesto, from territory subtracted from the archdiocese of Ljubljana; Celje, from territory subtracted from the diocese of Maribor; and Murska Sobota, also from territory detached from the diocese of Maribor. The Pope then assigned the diocese of Novo Mesto as suffragan to the metropolitan archdiocese of Ljubljana; raised the diocese of Maribor to a metropolitan archdiocese, and assigned to it the suffragan bishoprics of Celje and Murska Sobota. Franc Kramberger, hitherto bishop of Maribor, was nominated metropolitan Archbishop of the same diocese. The new bishop of Novo Mesto is Andrej Glavan, hitherto auxiliary of Ljubljana. As bishop of Celje Benedict XVI has appointed Anton Stres, hitherto auxiliary of Maribor, while Marjan Turnšek, hitherto rector of the episcopal seminary of Maribor, has been appointed to the new see of Murska Sobota.
