The European Commissioner for the Environment Stavros Dimas has presented the Commission’s priorities for 2006 in the field of environmental policy. Having considered 2005 a “crucial year” (linked to the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol and the take off of the Eu system for the exchange of polluting emissions quotas), the Executive intends to concentrate its own efforts also in economic terms on four main areas: 1) the contribution of the Eu to negotiations on measures to combat climate change, with regard to which the Commission will present an Action Plan to improve energy efficiency; 2) the publication of a programme to preserve biodiversity (the diversity of genes, species and ecosystems that constitute life on earth), with the extension of so-called Nature 2000 sites also to marine environments; 3) the promotion and application of Paet Plan of Action in favour of Ecotechnologies with the adoption of concrete measures together with member states starting from May this year ( in primis relating to the protection of the soil and the sustainable use of pesticides) and the revival of research to increase employment in the sector, as requested by the Lisbon Strategy; and 4) improvement of environmental legislation with the correct and prompt conversion of Eu norms into national legislation, a sometimes uncertain process and the weak link in a chain that often thwarts Community efforts. ———————————————————————————————————– Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 1455 N.ro relativo : 15 Data pubblicazione : 01/03/2006
