“Offering the new generations not just the keys for an understanding of the media, but also arousing new ‘artisans’ for a better quality of the means of communication and for a constructive contribution of their culture to the civilization of man”: that’s the aim of MED, the Italian association for education in the media and communication. To mark its 10th anniversary, the association devoted to media education is holding a congress on the theme “The wisdom of communicating” from 3 to 4 March, in collaboration with the faculty of Sciences of Communication of the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and the faculty of Educational Science at the Catholic University of Milan. Media education is an activity aimed at developing in the young critical information and understanding about the nature and categories of the media, the techniques they use to form messages and generate meaning, the genres of the media and the special languages they use”, explains the website of the MED (www.medmediaeducation.it). Its educational projects are mainly aimed at schools and families, as well as at the Christian community. The association has well-consolidated contacts with the international world of media research.
