The General Directorate of economy and finance of the European Commission has published its report on the economic climate in the EU for December 2005. So-called “economic sentiment” reflects the general economic activity of the Union combining evaluations, expectations and analyses resulting from surveys conducted among consumers’ associations and businesses (industry, services, construction and trade). The document (available on the website http://europa.eu.int/comm/economy) indicates a further improvement of the indicators both in the 12 countries of the Euro and in the 25-member EU, registering an improvement over the negative data for November 2005 and thus confirming the positive trend that had begun in the summer. Worth noting is the fact that the biggest growth is that relating to the indicator of the confidence of European consumers in the European economy. In particular, the member states that present the most positive figures are Italy, Spain and the UK, while in France and Poland economic sentiment has shown a further decline, in spite of recent opinion polls more favourable to the Treaty on the European Constitution.
