Only a “verbal” form of anti-Semitism

“Anti-Semitism in Poland springs from certain cultural and historical forms of conditioning, but it remains confined to the verbal sphere. By contrast, in Western Europe we are dealing with a modern and more aggressive anti-Semitism, linked mainly to the situation in the Middle East”: that’s the opinion of Anna Zielinska, of the European Jewish Congress (EJC), which recently published a report on anti-Semitism in our continent. The report emphasises that “growing anti-Semitism is largely due to the media, traditionally pro-Arab, to the left-wing establishment and to Western intellectuals”. According to the representative of the EJC, anti-Semitism and hostility to the State of Israel are becoming ever stronger in Western Europe, whereas in the countries of Eastern Europe neutral or pro-Israeli attitudes prevail.
