Dining together with young believers and non-believers to speak about life and faith: that’s one of the ideas being pursued by the university apostolate in Barcelona, which this year came up with the idea of so-called “creative workshop-meals” to “create new inward spiritual and psychological meanings on the basis of rites, symbols and metaphors of our daily experience”. First, a meeting was held with a monk of the Benedictine monastery of Montserrat. At the next, discussion focused on sexuality and the life of the affections. “The dinners are not just aimed at a public of believers, but at anyone who wants to reflect on and deepen spiritual and human themes”, explains Elena Gelabert, organizer of the event, in a briefing to SIR . “The workshop-meals interest not only the young, but also people of other age groups”, and she adds: “Personally I am not a believer, but this initiative is rich in content and helps us better to understand ourselves: it’s not a manual of self-help but tries to foster personal reflection while dining with friends. It’s a real success”. At the next dinner discussion will focus on the meaning of Christmas.
