Belgium: for peace and justice

“Building a durable and stable peace”: that’s the invitation made to Muslims at the beginning of Ramadan by Bishop Guy Harpigny of Tournai, delegate for inter-religious dialogue within the Bishops’ Conference of Belgium. “This cooperation in favour of justice and civil liberties is the concrete basis of a sincere dialogue – writes the bishop in the name of Catholics in the country – from which greater mutual knowledge and trust and the assurance that each faithful be able freely and genuinely to profess his own faith shall be obtained. The way of those who believe in God is not that of violence, but of peace. We need to examine the causes of misunderstandings, insults and affronts, so as to take effective measures, heal the wounds we have caused to each other, and create places of peace and justice in our society”.
