Bible and European culture: master in Italy

A new master or postgraduate degree on “Bible and European culture. Biblical texts as source of philosophic and theological thought, literature and art” begins this year at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan. Promoted by the Catholic University in collaboration with the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy and the Institute of Religious Sciences in Milan, the two-year course will be held from October 2006 to June 2008. “Providing detailed knowledge of the influence of the Bible on the formation of European culture”: that, explain the organizers, is the main objective of the course, which is offered to secondary school teachers and graduates with a four-year or specialized degree, with the aim of increasing the necessary skills to evaluate the biblical roots of European culture, in an interdisciplinary perspective, and to understand the questions relating to the meeting between different cultures and religions. The syllabus comprises basic courses on the Bible; specialized historical, cultural and interdisciplinary seminars, dedicated to the relation between Bible and philosophy, literature, drama, art, music; workshops focusing on intercultural and interfaith questions; and individual projects.
