church & communication
The 12th meeting of ECIC (www.ecic.org), the Conference of webmasters belonging to the various European Christian Churches, ended at Revfülöp (Hungary), a little lakeside resort on the shores of Lake Balaton, on 20 June. The theme of the meeting, “Church 2.0, an environment for interaction and integration”, stimulated reflection and discussion on the relation between the new frontier of internet, i.e. so-called web 2.0 (also called “semantic” or intelligent web), and the pastoral service performed through the web. “Our main objective – said Father Franco Mazza, vice-chairman of ECIC – is not that of seeking new platforms and technologies to reach as many addressees as possible, but that of devoting care to the life and profound questions of the human person and hence his rapport with the new media. I think it’s important we listen to a changing world and a society that provokes us with new lifestyles”. Some thirty participants took part in the event, which began on Saturday 16 June; most of them came from the Evangelical Churches of Northern Europe.
