“Fifty years later: where is the mission? From the people’s mission in Milan to the forms of daily mission in the new forums of our time”: that’s the theme of the 57th week of pastoral aggiornamento promoted by the COP (Pastoral Guidance Centre), due to be held at Triuggio (Milan) from 18 to 21 June. “Starting out from a retrospective review of the Milanese mission in 1957 – explain the organizers -, and examining other forms of people’s missions in more recent years, the aim is to grasp the spirit that animated the protagonists in responding to the challenges of the time, compare their missions with the new forms of evangelization, both Italian and European, and offer pastoral perspectives for new experiences of mission”. The Christian community, explains Bishop Domenico Sigalini of Palestrina, President of the COP, “must perforce have basic options at its disposal” to be able to live “in a state of mission”. “Just as in the past it was equipped for the cura animarum , so today it must be equipped for mission”. The speakers will include the Patriarch of Lisbon Cardinal José da Cruz Policarpo – who in 2005 hosted in his diocese the third stage of project to evangelise the big cities of Europe that was inaugurated in 2003, that is held in a different European capital each year (Vienna, Paris, Lisbon, Brussels), and that will end in Budapest in the autumn – and Monsignor Aldo Giordano, general secretary of the CCEE (Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe).
