The European Commission last week proposed a new joint legal framework for the formation of EU agricultural products both on the internal market and on the markets of third countries. The legislative simplification in question – harmonizing the two Regulations currently in force and merging them into a single text – is intended to “facilitate access to and participation in the regime for the operators of the policy of promotion in member states”. The proposal – already transmitted to the Council of Ministers of Agriculture with a view to its definitive adoption – does not make any significant innovations in terms of content: the classic forms of promotion will be maintained (conferences and seminars, advertising and marketing, participation in trade fairs and promotional events), while reinforcing investments in “campaigns of promotion and information to explain to consumers the unique character of European agricultural products both in terms of quality and diversity”.
