“Properly preparing the European football championship in 2012 is a great responsibility”, said Monsignor Marian Florczyk, who heads the office for the pastoral care of sport within the Polish Bishops’ Conference, after the decision of UEFA to award the organization of the continental championship jointly to Poland and Ukraine. “We must mobilise the whole country, both from the cultural and from the organizational and sporting point of view, to ensure the European Cup in 2012 be truly a national festivity”, added Mons. Florczyk. He also expressed the hope that, during Euro 2012, Polish fans would set an example of civilized conduct and sportsmanship, and, of course, that the footballers of the Polish national team would succeed in qualifying for the championship in 2008 (organized by Austria together with Switzerland). Mons. Florczyk naturally hopes in the success of Poland, when by right (as the host country) she will take part in the championship in 2012.
