A series of spiritual meetings for families has begun in the diocese of Nicopoli. The meetings are being led by the man in charge of this pastoral sector, Father Jacek Woiceh. “In this world which seems increasingly hostile to the family – says Father Remo Gambacorta, diocesan vicar general, in a briefing to SIR – we feel the urgent need for pastoral care for families”. “In the diocese of Nicopoli half of families suffer from serious problems – say Marinella and Anatoli Balenkovi, catechists and married for 20 years -. Many married couples are divided, because, due to lack of work, one of the spouses has been forced to emigrate. There are so many unmarried mothers”. The situation is further complicated by “mixed marriages which remove spouses from the Catholic community, and by the diffusion of unmarried relationships, an easy option, without responsibilities”, says Anatoli Balenkov. “Yet the children born from these partnerships, once they have been initiated in Christian life, know the sacraments better than their parents”.
