Bulgaria: youth and civic life

The city of Rakovski – the only Bulgarian city with a Catholic majority – will shortly approve the European Charter for the participation of youth in the life of cities and regions. The European Charter was recently presented to the young by the city’s Councillor for Youth Policies Nikolaj Koprinkov. “This document – he told SIR – will help youth NGOs to apply for financial support for the realization of youth programmes. We, as a municipality, want to support the young because they can help our city with their projects and their ideas”. In this way they will also be able to draw on European funds. “We are very satisfied with this charter – said Maria Stambolijska, of the youth pastoral office of Rakovski – because in this way some pastoral projects for youth may receive additional support”.
