The General Direction for Justice, Freedom and Security of the European Commission, selected national and trans-national projects filed in the framework of the call for proposals aimed at “support to reception”, with an overall budget of 7 million euro for the current year and complementary to the Community Framework Programme “Solidarity and Migration flow management 2007-2013”. Six projects were selected as recipients of Brussels’ funds: improvement of first-asylum centres and development of social services, training and community activity (Malta); receptivity increase (Italy and the High Commissioner for UN Refugees); two initiatives for managing asylum petitions and the creation of an appropriate department for Iraqi asylum-seekers (Sweden); reception capacity on the sea and land borders (Greece and the High Commissioner for UN refugees); establishment of support, health and translation facilities (Spain).
