For an Equal Globalization

During the Forum on Employment in Equal Globalization contexts, promoted last week in Lisbon by the International Employment Organization, the European Commissioner in charge of social affairs and employment Vladimir Spidla confirmed the Union’s commitment and of its Member States in implementing national and community policies in the sector of trade, development and external relations so as to create a greater number of job opportunities of higher level “supported by social protection, equal opportunities and social dialogue”. In particular the Commission will intensify also legislative cooperation with International Organizations (UN, IEO, WTO) and with the so-called “Countries with emerging economies”. In 2008 it will present a catalogue of its present and future initiatives related to quality employment and will encourage the 27 States to ratify IEO conventions on this subject. According to Mr. Spidla in fact, “considering that half of the world population has no social protection, it is the duty of the EU to promote a more equal form of globalization bearing in mind not only the financial aspect but also the environmental and social dimensions of the phenomenon, contributing in the fight against poverty and improving the living and working conditions in Industrialized and Developing Countries”.
