Thailand, China, Indonesia, Cambodia. These are the Asian stopovers undertaken these days by frère Alois, new prior of the ecumenical community of Taizè, in his “pilgrimage of faith on earth” before participating in the European meeting which will bring together tens of thousands of young people in Geneva at the end of the year. Yesterday Fr. Alois animated the meeting with a reflection on the subject “The choice to love, the choice of hope”, a prayer in the Assumption Cathedral in Bangkok to which took part Christians from various denominations. The prayer was prepared in the course of a long series of meetings which involved school and University students from Bangkok as well as the residents of the Lutheran “Home of Praise” in the area of the slums of Khlong Toei, which gives hospitality to the children of convicts. Tomorrow father Alois will be in Hong Kong to attend two meetings: in the evening in the Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and at midday in the Anglican St.John Cathderal. The Father had already spent several weeks in Hong Kong precisely 30 years ago, sharing the life of the refugees who lived in boats on the Sea in Southern China. Since then, he kept relations with Christians living in the cities, and a few young faithful could spend some time in Taizè. On November 23-25 youth will meet in Jackarta, Indonesia. Frère Alois will be proceeding to Kompong Tom and to Kompong Cham in Cambodia.
