Twelve Member States are the target of the EU for not having presented their national Action Plan on energy efficiency. In conformity with the Directive 2006/32 on energy efficiency and services, on 10/17 the law offices in Brussels filed infraction procedures against Belgium, Eastonia, France, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Sweden, all “guilty” of not having respected the 6/30/2007 deadline for drawing up and filing the Action Plans. The EU Countries’ commitment to “cleaner, cheaper and safer energy” was confirmed in the latest European Spring Council (March 2007) which agreed to reduce by 20% “non-financially justifiable” energy by decreasing traditional fossil fuel imports. Within the first few months of 2008 the Executive intends to review the Community Action Plan for energy efficiency on the basis of contributions by all Member States.
