On October 15-22 on the occasion of the World Day against Poverty, the EU Commission, in cooperation with National Governments, organized a series of parliamentary debates – held in the capital cities of new Member States – to sensitize citizens to the uprooting of poverty which figures among the pre-eminent Millennium Objectives established by the UN in the year 2000 and by the UN Development Project. The initiative shortly follows a Eurobarometer survey conducted on 11thousand people claiming that the New Member States positively view the link between EU entry and the Commission’s support to developing Countries, despite the lack of knowledge about the Community’s aid policies.
