The Portuguese section of Pax Christi has dedicated Peace Week 2007 to the theme “Taking care of the earth and of each other: ecology, peace and lifestyles”. Summing up the conclusions of the various events during the week, Manuel Quintãos said that “the contemporary ecological perspective is inseparably linked with peace, solidarity and development”. According to the general secretary of the Catholic movement, “climate change and global warming must arouse in the populations mutual concerns about the material conditions of their existence, and lead them to adopt lifestyles that are more conducive to preserving the planet’s natural resources”. “We would like – he added – people to reflect more on these emerging issues, but contemporary society does not always properly inform people of the possible consequences and dangers of many situations that are already here with us today”.
