Anglicans and Catholics, 40 years of dialogue

On Friday 14 September, the offices of the Anglican Communion and the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity published the definitive text of the Report of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission for Unity and Mission. The document – with the title “Growing Together in Unity and Mission: Building on 40 years of Anglican – Roman Catholic Dialogue (2007)” – offers to Anglicans and Catholics a concise summary of 40 years of theological dialogue. The text points out both the areas of convergence and agreement, and the current areas of difficulty and dialogue. It also explores how Anglicans and Catholics can continue to work ecumenically towards a shared view of Christian unity and at the service of the Gospel. The publication is accompanied by two comments, signed respectively by Bishop Paul Richardson, of the Anglican diocese of Newcastle, and Bishop Bernard Longley, auxiliary of the archdiocese of Westminster.
