Industrial production in the red

The positive trend of industrial production in the Euro zone begun in January 2007 has been interrupted. This follows a slight drop of 0.1% of the percentage rate registered by Eurostat in June in comparison with the figure for May. Zero growth was registered by the overall average of the 27 member states. On an annual basis the growth was 2.3% in the euro zone and 2.5% in the European Union as a whole. The production of non-durable consumer goods is the sector that has contributed most to the negative trend (respectively -0.3% and -0.2%), followed by the reduction in industrial output on a national basis registered in Romania (-2.1%), Estonia (-1.2%) and Ireland (-0.7%). Three countries were in the red in terms of industrial production in the period June 2006/June 2007: Denmark (-2.1%), France (-1.3%) and Italy (-1%).
