The Region of Estremadura is celebrating the first centenary of the canonical patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe over this region. The celebration of the popular feast will take place on 8 September; the Eucharist will be presided over by the Archbishop of Toledo, Cardinal Antonio Cañizares. The programme of events for this centenary also includes the Marian Theological Days, during which such themes as “Mother of God and Mother of the Church” and “The image of Mary in art” were discussed. A novena in honour of the Virgin is now in progress, with the participation of various bishops. The traditional floral tribute to the Virgin of Guadalupe took place on 6 September. Today, 7 September, there will be a mass for pilgrims, following by a Marian vigil in the evening.
