More human resources to research

While waiting for the publication of the Green Paper “European space of Research: new prospects”, last week the EU Commission adopted a Report on the development of human resources to be allocated to scientific research within the European Union. The document places emphasis on the positive developments that have followed the 2006 EU Report on mobility and the development of researchers’ careers”: so far, 170 bodies have endorsed the European Researcher Charter and the Code of Conduct for the recruitment of researchers; the success of the Internet portal of the Commission for job searching; the ERA-MORE advisory service, which helped over 25 thousand researchers within the EU territory, acting as a European network of mobility centres for agencies and universities (200 centres in 32 countries) – Add to this the Marie Curie scholarships and the ERA-LINK service for European researchers abroad. The Green Paper should be completed by early 2008 to provide the member states with appropriate legal tools to remove the technical and administrative obstacles that still limit mobility within the Union.
