Funds for Radio Jozef

The archbishop of Warsaw, Msgr. Kazimierz Nycz, expressed the desire to establish a foundation which would assure the necessary economic support for the activities of Radio Jozef, a Catholic station founded in the capital of Poland in 1994, by the primate of Poland, Card. Jozef Glemp. “It is a station which does not hide its ideas and its religious character”, pointed out Msgr. Nycz. According to the archbishop of Warsaw, Radio Jozef should not compete with commercial stations; however, since it has already got a group of listeners, it might find some more if it was effectively upheld. The new ones might be convinced to listen to this station by its clearly Catholic characteristics. “I would like this radio to be chosen by those who are looking for TV programmes with religious and spiritual character; I would like this radio to take part in the evangelization of a greater and greater number of people”, stated Msgr. Nycz. At present, the radio has got about 30-40 thousand daily listeners, and about 40 thousand monthly contacts on the Web. The proposal by Msgr. Nycz was made known by the media when the Polish public opinion was hit by contrasting information about the alleged declarations by Father Tadeusz Rydzyk, director of another Catholic station, Radio Maryja, which some people considered offensive for the highest authorities of the State.
