POLAND
Thursday, July 26th, in front of the tomb of John Paul II, a special Mass for the victims of last Sunday’s serious car accident in Grenoble was celebrated. 26 Polish pilgrims lost their lives in it, while another 24 wounded are now in various hospitals in France and Poland. “It is true that pilgrimage implies severe fatigue, but it is also a remarkable encouragement to change one’s life, a particular chance for remedial penitence. Pilgrimage is a gift and an opportunity to detach oneself from daily life to listen to the word of the Lord with humbleness. It is a precious time for dialogue with the Lord”, said Msgr. Grzegorz Kaszak in his homily, rector of the Polish Institute of Rome. During the three days of national mourning, proclaimed in Poland from July 23rd to 25th, Masses for the victims and their families were celebrated in many Polish churches, while prayers for the dead and the survivals are going on in various sanctuaries, including the one in La Salette, visited by the pilgrims before the disaster.
