Latvia: the Motu Proprio changes nothing

“The Motu Proprio will not bring any significant changes in the order of the Mass in the Catholic Church in Latvia”, said Cardinal Primate Ianis Pujatz, commenting on Benedict XVI’s “Summorum Pontificum” on the use of the Latin Mass. “In Latvian churches Latin is already used in some parts of the mass such as the Gloria and the Credo and no one has ever had difficulties with that”, maintains the Cardinal. Latin is also used in the solemn masses presided over by the Nuncio or by some guest bishop. According to the Primate of the Latvian Church, “the Motu Proprio does not in any way present the use of the local language during the mass and in future too there ought not to be any problems as a result of this document”.
