“You are Christians or Muslims and have shared the experience of meeting others who are different from you in faith and in religious practices”, or “you think that many Christians and Muslims have a false image of each other and of each other’s religions” or, again, “you consider it indispensable that in our society the exponents of different religious and philosophic expressions should learn to mutually know each other and to enter into dialogue to build a world of justice and peace…”: so begins the invitation to participate in the 7th Week of Islamic-Christian Meetings (SERIC), promoted by the GICF (Group for Islamic-Christian Friendship). The meetings will be held in France, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Britain and Sweden from 16 to 25 November. The stated objective of the Week is to “improve understanding between people, co-existence, and dialogue between believers”. Founded in 1993 and formed in equal parts of Christians and Muslims, the GICF is committed to “dialogue and the promotion of the ethical and spiritual values common to Islam and to Christianity”.
