Germany: III International Congress on the universal Church

Celebrations in three different Catholic rites, Eucharistic adoration, penitential rite and the ordinary morning and Vesper functions: this is the spiritual core of the III international congress on the universal Church which will take place in Augusta, Bavaria, from 11th to 13th April 2008. The schedule was illustrated in Munich over the last few days by the organiser, the charity agency “Kirche in Not”. According to the director of the charity, Klaus Wundlechner, the meeting is also an “opportunity to renew one’s life in Christ”. The “testimonies of faith given by bishops and missionaries from countries where the Christians are persecuted and discriminated against prove that the Christian faith can change the world and the people” and “are an inspiration to recognise one’s faith and live it more deeply”, he explained. The congress will be opened by card. Dario Castrillon Hoyos, president of the Papal Commission Ecclesia Dei. April 12th will see the celebration of Tridentine Mass in the basilica of St. Ulrich und Afra. A Byzantine-rite Mass has also been planned. The final Eucharistic celebration will be officiated by mgr. Walter Mixa, bishop of the diocese of Augusta, which hosts the congress.
