XX WYD: GOD’S GIFT TO THE CHURCH IN GERMANY. THE POPE GREETS THE GERMAN BISHOPS (2)

Talking in particular about the WYD, Benedict XVI underlined that this "invites us to project our vision towards the future. Young people are for the Church, for the priests, for the parents and educators, a living call to faith and hope". In the meantime, one must "neither mortify the search nor hide the truth. In fact young people are not looking for a youngish Church but for a Church which is young in spirit; a Church transparent to Christ. This is the commitment we intend taking on today. Once again youngsters are a healthy provocation for us priests,  because they ask us to be consistent, united and courageous. We, on our part, must educate them on being patient, having discernment and a healthy realism. However without false compromises, in order not to water down the Gospel". The Pope warned "every World Youth Day is a new beginning for youth pastoral care in the country which hosted it. Its celebration brings enthusiasm with it, which needs to be supported in the best way. It is a great potential for energy, which can grow further spreading over throughout the territory". (continued)
