The Light of Peace of Bethlehem arrived punctually on the stage of Marienfeld at a quarter to five. The arrival of the Light was accompanied by notes from Moya Brennan (Irish), Yair Dalal (Israeli), Montserrat Marti (Spanish) and Giora Feidman. "The Light explained the WYD Organisation Committee recalls the story of the Three Wise Kings who came from the East. They were in search of the King of the world and found Him in Bethlehem. The Light of Bethlehem wants to be a sign of peace and will therefore be given to all the participants at the Vigil so that they can take it home and to all parts of the world". Hundreds of thousands of candles have been handed out to the pilgrims since the early afternoon. "They represent the light of God explained a girl from the stage in Italian. We will take them to our home lands, our parishes and in our lives. It will be the symbol of our faith and a souvenir of the days which we experienced here in Cologne".
