XX WYD: IN MOSUL, 400 BOYS AND GIRLS "SPIRITUALLY" BONDED WITH COLOGNE

"The Catholic Church is one and has no boundaries". This is the spirit with which approximately 400 boys and girls from Mosul have gathered yesterday "to be spiritually bonded" with the 400 thousand boys and girls who have come to the WYD from all over the world. This "spiritual pilgrimage to Cologne" – as he defines it – has been told by a Chaldean priest, father Ragheed Ganni, invited today by AsiaNews.it, the Pime’s agency specialising in Asia, to tell his testimony. He tells how the young Catholics in Mosul are experiencing the WYD; most of them are not in Cologne for security reasons or because of problems with their visas. As to yesterday’s pilgrimage, the priest writes: "I talked with the young about the subject of the WYD of 2005, "We have come to adore Him". I spoke of what we can learn from the three Wised Men; finding Jesus, loving Him and giving continuity to this gesture. Just like the three Wise Men – I told them –, we too have to look at and read the signs, search, make distinctions, feel joy, have a vision in our hearts, offer, convert ourselves and finally pledge ourselves as the witnesses of faith. Through these 8 steps, we can accomplish a real adoration of our God and Saviour". "At the time of the prayer, adds the priest, "mgr. Paul Faraj Rahho, the archbishop of Mosul, was there too, and celebrated the Eucharist. In the homily, he urged all attendees never to be ashamed of the Cross of Christ, to take up all the challenges and ordeals of faith in our times".
