XX WYD: MARIENFELD, THE EXPECTATIONS OF TWO YOUNG CZECHS

” “Over 3,500 young people have come from all over the Czech Republic to meet Benedict XVI. As early as this morning, they began to move towards the esplanade of Marienfeld for tonight’s vigil and tomorrow’ Mass with the Pope. Libor Jaros, 28, from Pribislav, says he is glad "he came to Cologne for the WYD" and would like to satisfy his curiosity about two things: "Firstly, I am looking forward to seeing what rapport will be established between us, the young of the WYD, and the new Pope. In addition, I wonder if and how Benedict XVI will keep the Wojtyla-style alive or whether he will find new ways of touching the hearts of us young people". Eva Konecna, 18, from Kromeriz, wonders instead how to talk of the WYD to her friends back in the Czech Republic: "I don’t know if I will find the right words to do it. But I hope I can communicate my enthusiasm in daily life". And she adds: "Last Thursday, I saw the Pope and he looked like a guardian watching over this youth, showing a way. I would really like to get to know him better, just as close as I felt to John Paul II".
