XX WYD: BENEDICT XVI’S FIRST MESSAGE TO THE YOUNG. SIR’S NOTE

” “"Someone who is not deceived and cannot deceive and can therefore offer such a firm certainty as to let people live and, if needed, even die for it". Benedict XVI in Cologne, in his first message to the young, offers this "Someone" as the goal of the search that every man and woman conducts in their lives. After all, this is the direction John Paul II had given to the World Youth Days.
” “Everything is important and meaningful, including colours, sounds, songs, dances, but the key is searching for and attaining, even if stumbling or tripping, that "Someone" who will not disappoint. Without this perspective, it is difficult, if not impossible, to grasp the value of an encounter, which, as with all human experiences, cannot help having some shadows. But shadows are the proof of the existence of light. Just like that of the star, which showed the way to the three Wise Men and remains an icon of the fatigue and beauty of a search that has never been completely accomplished. A light that lights up the personal but not individual, intimate but not intimist, free but not lost, journey.
” “This is a passage Benedict XVI is dwelling on, so that faith will not be a finished affair, but will grow as an experience made within a community and will make people discover the Church as an essential and longed-for place for an adult and fecund faith, which wants to stay with love within history.
” “To make people rediscover and love the Church again as an experience of truth, of freedom, of joy has been, since the dawn of this WYD, a priority for Benedict XVI for the young and with the young. The first signs of understanding and agreement are already starting to appear.
