In addition, the President praised the WYD schedule, focussed on "spirituality, prayer and the celebration of faith. Changes, the real ones he highlighted must begin in the heart of the individual. By opening up and looking for direction, these hundreds of thousands of young people are giving us adults a sign of hope and confidence". Then, he quoted the Pope’s words on the "pathologies" or "false moves", which sometimes exist in religions and which lead to violence and extremism. "Religion and reason – he highlighted must be purified by one another all the time, as you said". The President ended with the wish the WYD "may remain an undeniable expression of humane and compassionate faith. A faith that is not unmoved by the world and by mankind and which bears witness to the fact we are all God’s children in one world".
