"I am sure from heaven frère Roger will open the hearts of the young and will lead them, hand in hand, to the message of this WYD, "We have come to adore Him". He will do it, he who has spent all his life in adoration and has died just after the evening’s prayer". These are the words spoken by Joachim Meisner, archbishop of Cologne, to the many journalists from all over the world who were waiting for him with microphones and video cameras outside the Church of Saint Agnes, where the cardinal spent a few minutes praying for frère Roger. "He died he said just on the day the WYD opened. A few hours earlier, I was in the stadium with the boys and girls, and I had said two Popes were watching over us, one from heaven, one on earth. Now, we have one more important man looking after us from heaven". Then, cardinal Meisner greeted frère Alois, who will replace frère Roger at the head of the Community: "I wish he may live in the light of his predecessor".
