XX WYD: FROM AMERICA TO EUROPE YOUNG PEOPLE WANT PEACE

” “A human chain of young people from different continents encircled the town of Munster to ask the rulers of the world to promote peace. This happened yesterday, in the German town, at the opening of the "Welcome World" celebrations during which a message demanding peace was signed by the various thousands of youth present. Echoes of the celebrations can still be heard today in Munster. Brian McHale, 19, a student from West Palm Beach in Florida, would like to launch an appeal with the support of all the youth present at the 20th World Youth Day: "The war is terrible. We must all pray for peace". Annika Grote, 18 from Grossreken (Germany), a pilgrim in Munster and volunteer worker in Cologne, has a message for the rulers of the Old Continent: "Europe must play a more incisive role for peace in the world". Annika is convinced that young people themselves can "set a good example to improve our society, by showing how wonderful it is to meet people with different cultural backgrounds". (continues)
