"To young people who hold deep wounds in their heart, to those who are confused and lost, slaves of drugs and sex, ill from false mirages of happiness". The WYD addresses all if them and brings a message of hope: "Happiness exists and has a name: Jesus Christ!". Archbishop Stanislaw Rylko, President of the Pontifical Council for the Lay Faithful said these words this evening, during Mass for the volunteers of the WYD, who packed the Bay Arena in Leverkusen with over 15 thousands people attending. A stadium completely covered in red (the colour of the T-shirts of the youngsters who chose to live the WYD behind the scenes serving the pilgrims)listened in silence to the words of Monsignor Rylko: "With the WYD Christ invites young people to get out of the greyness of daily life and through the Successor of Peter continues to say: Get up, do not waste the gift of life. Christ is the great spiritual adventure of the WYD. Let none of you voluntary workers lose sight of this". Monsignor Rylko then recalled the figures of Martha and the good Samaritan as examples for the volunteers: "Christ invites you to bow down with love towards your contemporaries. A great deal will depend on your kindnesses, which will also be a witness to your faith. Be a gift to others as Christ had done in the Eucharist. Be a generous gift for others". This morning Monsignor Rylko "Casa Italia", the operational centre of the Italian Bishops’ Conference for the WYD in Cologne. The visit is published with pictures and an interview with the Archbishop himself on the web site: www.gmg2005.it.
