Cologne, square in front of the Cathedral: at the centre, in front of the railway station, there is an Info gazebo of the 20th World Youth Day where volunteers do shifts from 10 in the morning to 10 at night, to welcome the pilgrims, the volunteers as well as all the other people who arrive in town. "There are many local people explains one of the volunteers, Christoph von Vogelstein, 27, German who come here to ask for information. The first thing they want to know about is the arrival of the Pope". The locals are also interested in information about road traffic, especially about the streets that will be closed during the main celebrations. "Actually the volunteer goes on to say – the locals want to be informed so as to be able to help the pilgrims make their way across the town". In spite of the rain this morning there were long queues at the Info Points: pilgrims and volunteers of many different nationalities are dashes of colour in the Cathedral Square. "The atmosphere is peaceful says von Vogelstein even though there are many who think that a gathering of hundreds of thousands of young people like the WYD may be a tempting target for terrorists. But, ultimately, nobody is really afraid".
