XX WYD: TIPS TO PILGRIMS FOR "ECO"-DAYS

” “The one of Cologne will be an "eco-friendly" World Youth Day. This is the target that the WYD organisation department has set out for itself, which means taking care of natural resources, minimising the negative impact on the environment and practising the principle of sustainability. All this will be possible with the help of the young pilgrims. The guidebook, which is enclosed with the pilgrim’s bag, contains plenty of tips, to be immediately put in practice. First of all, let’s start with transport. The pilgrim’s card also applies as a ticket for public transport, so there will be no need for private transport. Tips also on how to avoid wasting water: "Do not let it flow aimlessly – the guidebook reads – when you do the laundry or take a shower". The same applies, of course, to electricity, electric appliances and lighting. Another very significant issue is waste disposal. Every pilgrim’s bag contains a bottle: "You can fill it – reads the guidebook – from public taps and in your lodgings". Many water taps will be available on the Marienfeld plain. (to be continued)
