Xx WYD: CARD. MEISNER TO THE JOURNALISTS, "HELP US SPREAD THE MESSAGE OF THIS DAY"

” “876 work stations with Internet connections, of which 180 are free of charge, have been made available to the 7500 journalists that are expected to arrive. Multilingual volunteers hurry to and fro across the pavilions of the press centre of Cologne, carrying sheets of paper and press releases. Some even ride bicycles. The Cologne press office, which is housed in the Conference Building of the town, is the nerve centre of the 20th World Youth Day. This is where all the information about the WYD will be coming from. "It is my deepest hope – writes the Archbishop of Cologne, Card. Joachim Meisner in his greetings to the journalists in the "Guidebook for the press" – that you will be able to bear witness to the profound spiritual involvement of the young pilgrims. Let yourselves be captured by the faith that these young people have and help us spread their message to the farthermost corners of the Earth". Similar facilities have been set up also in Bonn and in Dusseldorf. And in closing a recommendation addressed to all the journalists: "Do not interview the youth during their activities and during prayer time, but rather wait until they have finished and are available. Indeed, the celebrations are the very heart of the event".
